John J. Todd

John J. Todd was the second son of Edward D. Todd and Mary Blocker. He was enumerated in the 1830 Tattnall Co. census in the under 5 bracket.

John J. Todd b. abt 1826 in Tattnall Co.
m. 29 Jun 1845. Elizabeth Waters
They are listed in Tattnall County Marriages 1801-1850 (Huxford Gen. Society, pub.)

John J. was in his own household in the 1850 census, right after his brother, William. E. This was already posted previously, but here it is again:

1850 Tattnall Co. Ga census:

name age place of birth
John J. Todd 24 Tattnall
Elisabeth (sic)
25 ditto
Piercy (aka Pearcy) 4 ditto
Mary 1 ditto

1860 Tattnall Co. Ga census:

name age
John J. Todd 36
Elizabeth 35
Pearcy 16
Mary 12
Jane 8
America 6
Nancy 4

John J. was a farmer and had a personal estate value of $300, but no real estate value is given.

1870 Tattnall Co. Ga census:

name age
John J. Todd 44
Isabel (Elizabeth- cf 1880)
45
Sarah (Jane)
19
Louisiana (America)
16
Nancy 14
Charles (Emanuel)
11
Cornelius

Martha 5

John J. was still a farmer, with $440 in personal estate, and still no real estate.

Where John J.'s other children were in 1870:

Pearcy is now married to Michael O'Donnel from Ireland and can be found in her husband's household in Tattnall Co., with a son, William age 1. Marriage source: Family Search batch# M713771.

Mary- is now married to Noah Waters (per Bryan) and can be found in his household in Tattnall Co.

1880 Tattnall Co. Ga census:

name age
John Todd 53
Elizabeth 55
Charles 20
Cornelius 17
Martha 13

John is still a farmer and there is an entry that states that he had a broken rib.

Where his other children were in 1880:

Pearcy's family is by now in Poughkeepsie, NY (Dutchess Co.). I've included her 1880 entry so you can see for yourself that it's the same Pearcy from Ga. She's Anne P. in 1900.

name age place of birth
O'Donnell, Michael 37 Ireland
(Pearcy) Ann 34 Georgia
William A. 10 Georgia
John J. 9 Georgia
Charlie E. 7 New York
Richard 4 New York
Thomas 2 New York
Joseph 6 mo. New York

Mary is with her husband in Tattnall Co. Her household is the one after Mary (Blocker) Todd's.

Sarah Jane- unknown. Her future husband, James J. Blocker is still single and living in his mother's household in 1880 Tattnall Co.

America is by now married to Nathaniel Bacon and they can be found in Tattnall Co. Bryan differs in that he has Nathaniel Bacon married to America Waters, but both death certificates of their children, Nora Bacon Funderburk and Henry B. Todd indicate that their mother was America Todd.

Nancy is now married to James Jasper Bacon (per WC family trees. Bryan also indicates JJ Bacon was married to Nancy A. Todd, but doesn't indicate who her parents were). They can be found in Tattnall Co. Their household is the one before Nathaniel's. James Jasper and Nathaniel were brothers. Their mother was Roseann (or Rose Ann) Blocker, daughter of Jacob Blocker, Jr., who was Mary Blocker Todd's brother. If you're having deja vu regarding Nancy's husband's name, keep in mind that it was James Jasper Waters who was married to Florida Todd.

This is the last time John J. and Elizabeth are found in census records. Per Bryan, Elizabeth died in 1890 and John J. died in 1898. Remember nearly all 1890 census records were destroyed. Both are buried at Harmony Church Cemetery in Glennville, Tattnall Co. Ga.
