The children and grandchildren of Jacob and Isabelle Todd

There's a good bit of information to be found online on Jacob's branch of the family, thanks to
Charlton Co. Marriages which is part of the Baker Co. FL Historical Society, run by Carl Mobley.
The Crypt by Tara D. Fields
Okefenokee Press
Georgia's Virtual Vault
There are also a few mentions on the Todds in History of Charlton County by Alex S. McQueen.

Mary
b.23 Feb 1852, d. 23 Oct. 1945 (The Crypt)
m. 5 Feb 1882 in Charlton Co. (Charlton Co. Marriages)
Frank Daniels b. 4 Jun 1850 in Germany, d. 2 Nov 1932 (same link as Mary's).
There are discrepancies pertaining to Mary's DOB in census records, but I'll go with what's on her tombstone.

Extracts from Charlton County Herald, courtesy of Okefenokee Press:

1945- MRS. MARY E. TODD DANIELS DIED. Mrs. Mary E. Daniels, who was perhaps Charlton County’s oldest resident, passed away at the home of her grandson, Frank Todd at Racepond on October 23rd, following a long illness due to the infirmities of her advanced years. Authentic family records establish Mrs. Daniels as having reached the remarkable age of 105 years. Survivors include four sons, Jake Daniels, Robert Daniels, George Daniels and Eddie Todd; one daughter, Mrs. Aggie Johns; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, John Todd and one sister, Mrs. Emma Harrell. Funeral services were conducted at the Racepond Church and interment took place in Sardis Cemetery.
Note: if she was 105 years old, that means she was born in 1840 when her father would have been 12 years old, so that would be incorrect.

1932- MR. FRANKLIN DANIELS DIED. Franklin Daniels was born in Germany November 9, 1850 and died at his home in Uptonville on November 9, 1932, age 82 years. February 5, 1882 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Todd. Unto them were born three children. Mr. and Mrs. Daniels have lived in Charlton County ever since their marriage. His health had been gradually growing worse for some time and for several weeks before his death it was apparent that life was ebbing away until November 9th his spirit peacefully slipped into the Great Beyond. He was converted a few months ago and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church during the pastorate of Rev. M.G. Davis. While the condition of his health never permitted him to come to the church after his conversion we feel that the life he lived and the words he spoke proved he had found his Saviour. He is survived by his wife and the following children: J.D. Daniels, G.D. Daniels and Robert Daniels and several grandchildren. Interment was in Sardis cemetery.

Mary's 1900 entry indicates that she had 5 children, all of whom were still living, but it appears she only counted those who were in her husband's household in 1900. She actually had 7 children.

Mary had the following children (she likely was unwed when she had the Todd children):
  1. Edward Todd b. abt 1874
    m. Alice Hickox on 26 Jul 1899 (Charlton Co. Marriages)
I couldn't locate him in 1900, but he is in Charlton Co. in 1910 and 1920, then his family is found in Nassau Co. FL in 1930.

  2. Aggie (or Agnes) Todd b. 1 Jul 1875, d. 18 Oct 1965 (The Crypt)
    m. Kyler (Cuyler) Johns. It appears she had two children out of wedlock, both of whom are in Frank Daniels's household in 1900, before she married Kyler.

Extract from Charlton County Herald, courtesy of Okefenokee Press:

    May 13, 1938

CUYLER JOHNS, 56, SHOT AND KILLED AT RACEPOND. Cuyler Johns, shot four times by George Wilson at Racepond Thursday died Friday at a Waycross hospital. He was a brother of the late O.K. Johns who was shot to death by his son, Royal Johns. Johns said that Wilson shot him after an argument over a quantity of whiskey. Wilson hid in the woods until the arrival of Sheriff J.O. Sikes when he surrendered. He is being held under $1,000.00 bond. Funeral services were held at Johns cemetery at Bachlott near Hickox. Mr. Johns was a native of Charlton, now Brantley County. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Agnes Todd Johns and seven children: Moley and Trody Johns, Mrs. Arthur Carter, Mrs. A.B. Lee, Mrs. Louis J. Dyal, Mrs. Charley Crews and Mrs. Charley Wheeler.

  3. James M.Todd b. 5 May 1877, d. 26 Aug 1915 (The Crypt)
    m. Rosa Crews on 15 Jun 1905 (Charlton Co. Marriages- same link as @ Eddie's)

James was shot to death by Cuyler (Kyler) Johns. (History of Charlton County by Alex S. McQueen, p. 126. All it says is that he was one of seven people, along with his brother, John, buried at Sardis Cemetery who were murdered.) Kyler Johns was the husband of James's sister, Agnes. Kyler is found in the 1920 census, so make of that what you will.

Two of James's children died from burns. (History of Charlton County by Alex S. McQueen, p. 127. No further information provided) His son, Jim R. Todd was burned on 17 Jan 1923, and died 30 Apr 1923. (death certificate -mother's maiden name indicates Hickox, but that was that probably her by now married name). I couldn't find the death certificate for the other one. According to Tara D. Fields at The Crypt, the other one was Rosie Mae who is buried in an unmarked grave, as is her brother, J.R.Todd

  4. John Todd b. 17 Jun 1879, d. 27 Dec 1909, according to his tombstone (The Crypt by Tara D. Fields). It's more likely he was born in 1881 as he was not enumerated in the 1880 census. The census was recorded 19 Jun 1880. He appears to be the John Daniels in the 1900 census in Frank Daniels' household, albeit with a different DOB.

John m. Ellen Crews 6 Aug 1905 (Charlton Co. Marriages- same link as Eddie's above).
His widow, Ellen was in the household of Jacob Daniels in 1910 and is indicated as his sister-in-law.

John was shot to death by Hack Brooker (History of Charlton County by Alex S. McQueen, p. 126- again, no further information is provided). His death is indexed in the Charlton County Herald by Okefenokee Press, but no extract is provided.

  5. Jacob D. Daniels b. Feb 1886
    m. 4 Oct 1902 (Charlton Co. Marrieages) Sallie Crews.
  6. George Daniels b. Dec 1889
    m. Lona May Corbett (death certificate of their son George)
  7. Robert D. Daniels b. Sept 1893
    m. 20 Sept 1911 (Charlton Co. Marriages- same link as Jacob's above) Minnie Corbett.
His family is residing in Ware Co. in 1920.

George W.
b. 6 Apr 1855, d. 24 Jan 1929; (The Crypt)
m. 17 Oct 1877 (Charlton Co. Marriages) Mattie E. Wheelis.
  1. Dora b. 3 Jun 1892, d. 9 Mar 1920 (death certificate at GVV)
Her mother's name, as indicated on her death certificate is Mattie Ball. Dora died single. She was in her father's household in 1900, along with her sister, Bernice. The 1900 census indicates Georg (sic) as a female and the mother of 2, by the way. Their household is the one after his sister, Mary's.
  2. Bernice b. Sept 1893
  3. Claudius b. 23 Sept 1903, d. 22 May 1967 (The Crypt) m. Mary Ann Johns b. 9 Oct 1903, d. 29 Apr 1961 (The Crypt)
